Garage Door Spring Replacements

Are your garage door springs broken? Like most things, garage door springs also have a life span. For certain doors that lifespan is longer than others but eventually your garage door springs will need replacing. Garage door springs are manufactured in a lot of different shapes & sizes to suit your doors individual size & weight. If your garage door springs are broken & incorrect sized springs are refitted you will damage your garage door & automatic opener. Fitting the correct shape & sized spring is imperative to the balancing, correct operation and lifespan of your garage door.

Roller Doors – Roller door spring have a normal life span of 20 – 25 years of normal domestic usage before they break. Unlike your other styles of doors, roller door springs are mounted in a concealed internal position upon manufacture and replacement isn’t an easy or recommended option. If you look in through the ends of your roller door and you can see that your roller door springs have broken then unfortunately our recommendation is a new door.

Tilt Doors – Tilt door springs have a life span of 20 – 30 years of normal domestic usage before they break. Tilt door springs are held on by small hook or ring ends and breakage usually occurs close to the ends. Tilt door springs can be replaced relatively easily. When replacing tilt door springs it is recommended that all the springs be replaced. All garage door springs do an even amount of work so if one spring is broken the remaining spring/s are usually pretty close to breaking.

Sectional/Panelift Doors – Sectional door springs have an estimated life span of 10 – 15 years of normal domestic usage (shorter if used excessively). When replacing panelift or sectional door springs it is recommended that all the springs be replaced. All garage door springs do an even amount of work so if one spring is broken the remaining spring/s are usually pretty close to breaking.

*Safety warning*

All garage door springs are tightened with large amounts of tension. If this tension is not released carefully and accurately it could result in garage door damage, property damage and worst of all damage to the person changing the garage door springs. Replacing your garage door springs may be an expense you weren’t expecting but don’t make it a larger expense by hurting yourself, your garage door or other property.

If your garage door springs are broken then please do not manually lift or automatically operate your garage door or garage door opener until these springs have been replaced. Garage door springs do the “heavy lifting” on your garage door and
